Sh’ar Yashuv, Edinburgh Messianic Fellowship wish to point out that our meetings are run in a Jewish cultural context. Our main objective is to reach Jewish people with the Good News of Yeshua their Jewish Messiah, whilst not offending their cultural and religious beliefs.
Observant Jews buy their meat and poultry from “Kosher” butchers who are trained to kill animals i a specific way. The meat is then salted and left to drain to remove excess blood. It is then “Kosher”. Pork is forbidden in any form.
In line with other Messianic Fellowships, we aim to have a vegetarian style buffet where fish is allowed but not shellfish or molluscs.
As we have many visiting speakers who stick to the Jewish dietary laws e.g. Barry Barnet, Lo Kaye-Wilson, Robin Little etc, some of our members, and other Jewish visitors, we do not wish to offend.
We trust that this clarifies our position and hope that our Gentile brothers and sisters will respect and support our Jewish identity so that both Jew and Gentile can work together in harmony and unity.
Romans Ch14 v 13-15
Therefore let us stop passing judgement on each other! Instead, make this one judgement — not to put a stumbling block or a snare in a brother’s way.
I know — that is, I have been persuaded by the Lord Yeshua, the Messiah — that nothing is unclean in itself, but if a person considers something unclean, then for hi it is unclean; and if your brother is being upset by the food you eat your life is no longer one of love. Do not by your eating habits destroy someone for whom the Messiah died!
